High School World Languages

  • The Gates Chili High School World Language Program offers French, Italian, Latin and Spanish.

Students who have fulfilled the minimum requirement for high school graduation in world languages while in middle school are encourages to continue their language sequence at the high school, beginning with level 2 in ninth grade. Students entering the high school who have not yet earned a credit for world languages will be enrolled in a level 1 course. Upon successful completion of a level 1 course, they may then choose to continue to level 2 and beyond. Successful completion of three credits in a world language, in addition to earning a 65% or higher on the level 3 Regents Equivalency Exam is one of the three sequence options offered by New York State to earn an Advanced Regents Diploma and is a popular choice among our students.

Students who continue to level 4 in any of our World Languages have the opportunity to earn college credit here at the high school through our Dual Enrollment Programs. Latin students may earn credit through Syracuse University in level 4, while French, Italian and Spanish students may earn credit through Monroe Community College in levels 4 and 5. High school World Language students also have the opportunity to travel abroad to France, Italy and Spain. Trips are typically offered every other year.
