FACS will focus on self esteem, decision making, and problem solving skills by applying academic learning to practical real life situations. Our goal is to foster the acquisition of life skills so each student can lead a successful life and become an integral part of the workforce, and a valuable family and community member. It is our hope that each student will become a lifelong learner who will manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society.
Grades 6 - 8
The middle school Family and Consumer Science (FACS) curriculum is designed to prepare students to meet their present and future responsibilities as family and community members, consumers, home managers, and wage earners. The goal is to educate students to think constructively, make sound decisions, solve problems and manage resources. The middle school FACS program is designed into four process skill areas: communication, leadership, management, and thinking. In addition, FACS supports the common core learning standards taught in the core academic areas by providing real world opportunities in which to apply the key ideas and skills taught in those courses. The content topics include: career development, clothing management, consumer resource management, financial management, interpersonal relationships, and personal environment management.
