Secondary Art Instruction

  • GRADE 6 

    General Art (20 weeks/three days during an eight-day rotation/59 minutes) Sixth grade is a half-year (one semester) course aligned with the New York State Learning Standards in The Arts. The course focuses on five units of study: Styles and Subject Matter, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Digital Art. The course builds on the knowledge and skills developed in elementary school and introduces more advanced concepts and techniques. 

    GRADE 7 

    Digital Art (20 weeks/three days during an eight-day rotation/59 minutes) The seventh-grade elective art course is a half-year class covering 4 units of study. In this course, students will be introduced to the discipline of digital arts through the exploration of Adobe Photoshop and other creation tools. Students will engage in a variety of creative digital art activities including the creation of photographs, videos, animations, graphic designs, and illustrations. The emphasis of this course is to foster creativity and self-expression through the use of digital arts.  

    GRADE 8 

    General Art (40 weeks/three days during an eight-day rotation/59 minutes) The eighth-grade art course is a full-year class covering 6 units of study. The units include: Principles of Design, Linear Perspective, Sculpture, Digital Arts, Drawing & Shading Color and Painting. The course prepares students for high school level fine arts courses while allowing for the exploration and appreciation of many types of subject matter, media, and techniques.
