Family and Consumer Science Grades 6 - 8
Family and Consumer Science (FACS) at the middle school is designed to prepare students to meet their present and future responsibilities as family and community members, consumers, home managers, and wage earners. The goal is to educate students to think constructively, make sound decisions, solve problems, and manage resources. In addition, FACS supports the Next Generation Learning Standards taught in the core academic areas by providing real-world opportunities in which to apply the key ideas and skills taught in those courses. Content topics include family structures, human development, nutrition, food preparation, career development, sewing and laundry, financial management, interpersonal relationships, and personal environment management.
