  •           Welcome Snow   January 2019

We are mid-way through the 2018-19 school year and the Counseling Office has been busy with our students in the Middle School.

This fall, Counselors have delivered Digital Citizenship lessons in classrooms promoting safe ways to use technology. Students have talked about on-line bullying, being an Upstander, safe on- line talk, and crossing the line with our on-line words. Common Sense Education:  https://www.commonsense.org/education/digital-citizenship has provided the lesson plan framework! Students really engaged in sharing and problem solving technology issues.

The addition of Naviance as a career education tool in the Middle School has also joined our classroom conversations. Students reviewed what are SMART goals as they reviewed their performance and plans for this school year. Students in grade 6 are using Naviance to start their conversations about future work and careers. Students in grade 7 spend time exploring many activities through FACS classrooms as they begin to voice their interests, skills, learning styles and their understanding of different intelligences. 8th graders will complete a career survey in the spring as they reflect on their goals for their freshman year at the high school.

Parents and students can also access Naviance at home!

The Middle School Counselors have tracked appointments into the Middle School Counseling Office.  To date over 1053 students have visited the counseling office. This includes both group and individual counseling as well as a variety of students who request our support, conversation and ideas.

It is a busy place. Happy New Year!
