High School English Department
-
Students in NYS are required to successfully complete four years of high school English and pass the NYS Regents exam in 11th grade before graduating. Additionally, students must complete a Senior Research Project.
Our 9-12 program is vast and always improving. Currently, our department consists of 11 highly qualified teachers who have each been with the district 12 years or more. We are fully committed to supporting the New York State Next Generation Standards as well as the Spartan Way. Our teachers strive to not only educate our students on reading and writing, but we also strive to enhance our daily lessons with real-world experiences which include character building opportunities. We consistently provide rich and diverse instruction by incorporating cooperative learning, meaningful technology use, and rigorous and multifaceted activities. Department members are committed to professional development in an effort to continually enhance our teaching practices.
Some of our more unique opportunities include the following course options:
- AP Language and Composition
- AP Literature (beginning again in the fall of 2020)
- Creative Writing
- Dual Credit Humanities 12
- Honors 9-11
- Public Speaking
