Gates Chili BOE to appoint Dr. Mitchell Ball as next superintendent

The Gates Chili Board of Education announced today its intent to appoint Dr. Mitchell Ball as the next superintendent of schools.

Dr. Ball has served the Gates Chili community since January 2020, first as assistant superintendent for business, then as deputy superintendent and most recently as interim superintendent. During that time, he has been a trusted member of the district’s leadership team, helping guide major initiatives related to finance, operations, instruction, safety and long-range planning.

His leadership has strengthened the district’s financial position and supported major capital projects, while also advancing systems and structures that support teaching and learning. He brings a focus on operational and organizational excellence, grounded in a commitment to relationships, connection and supporting the people who make Gates Chili a strong school community.

“Dr. Ball has demonstrated thoughtful leadership, a deep understanding of our district and a strong commitment to the success of our students,” said Board of Education President Katie Coffee. “The Board carefully considered the district’s ongoing growth and the importance of continuity in leadership. We are confident that Dr. Ball is well positioned to continue advancing the important work already underway across Gates Chili.”

Dr. Ball brings more than two decades of leadership experience across K-12 education and the private sector. He holds School Finance Officer certification through ASBO International and earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo, and a master’s degree in educational administration and certificate of advanced study in school business administration from SUNY Brockport. He also holds a doctorate in executive leadership from St. John Fisher University, where his learning and research focused on leadership, innovation and expanding opportunities for students in diverse communities.

“I am honored by the Board’s confidence and am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the Gates Chili community,” said Dr. Ball. “Our district is filled with dedicated educators, engaged families and students who inspire us every day. I look forward to continuing the strong work happening across our schools and building on the foundation already in place to support each learner.”

Dr. Ball has served as interim superintendent since January 2026 following the retirement of former Superintendent Christopher Dailey. The Board of Education is expected to formally appoint him to the position during its regular business meeting on March 24.
