GCHS students honored for saving neighbor
Two Gates Chili High School students have been recognized for their heroic efforts to help a neighbor. Seniors Brennan Day and Raymond Hagstrom were presented with Do the Right Thing Awards at a special ceremony ceremony on Feb. 26. They were nominated for the honor by their neighbor Phyllis Magri.
In August, Brennan and Raymond were riding their bikes home after cross country practice when they heard Phyllis calling for help. They stopped and searched the area until they found Phyllis in her garage, injured and bleeding after a fall. Jumping into action, Raymond called 911 and stayed by Magri's side while Brennan grabbed supplies to control the bleeding. After Phyliss was released from the hospital, the boys came to her house with a bouquet of roses to make sure she was OK.
Brennan and Raymond were joined at the award ceremony by Phyliss and their families, as well as Board of Education member Robert Long and GCHS principal Tom Hammel.
