Gates Chili Central School District received a total of $10,080,527 in federal stimulus funds to support student needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This one-time funding was provided through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSA) and the American Rescue Plan (ARP), with all funds required to be spent by September 2024.
In 2021, the district gathered public input to develop spending plans aligned with federal guidelines. Those original plans are posted on this page. As circumstances evolved, the district adjusted its approach to meet spending deadlines while maintaining the intent of the original investments.
Originally, CRRSA funds were allocated to replace rooftop HVAC units, and ARP funds were designated for classroom furniture. However, due to labor and supply chain delays, the HVAC equipment could not be installed by the CRRSA deadline. To ensure the district made full use of available funds, the classroom furniture was purchased using CRRSA funds, and ARP funds were redirected to complete the HVAC replacements.
The end result aligned with the district’s original goals, simply using each grant source more flexibly based on timing. Public feedback was again collected in 2024 in accordance with ARP requirements for plan modifications.
