Every student can receive free breakfast and lunch this school year
On August 31, 2020, the Federal government announced free breakfast and lunch for all students in all districts across the nation until June 30, 2021. This waiver has been extended until June 30, 2022. All students in the Gates Chili Central School District are able to receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2021-22 school year. All students opting for a free breakfast or lunch must take the full meal each time. Any lunch items purchased à la carte, including milk only purchases, are not covered under the waiver and must be purchased. This also includes snacks, water bottles and ice cream.
We are asking families to continue to submit applications to the Gates Chili school nutrition department, even though free meals will be offered through the 2021-22 school year, for the following reasons:
Students to request fee waivers for AP exams, college applications, etc. will not qualify for the fee waiver if they do not have a current application on file.
If the federal government decides to release a new batch of P-EBT food benefit cards to families during the pandemic like last summer families may not qualify if there’s not a current application on file.
A current application will allow students to be temporarily eligible for the first 30 operational days of the next school year 2022-23. This will buy families time to put in a new application for next year once the replication process begins over the summer.
