Board of Education unanimously approves administrative personnel actions
Dear Gates Chili School Community,
The Board of Education approved several administrative personnel appointments at a special session on May 4.
As we’ve shared, Associate Superintendent for Instruction Carol Stehm is retiring effective June 30. We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Stehm will be continuing to work with the district in a consulting capacity as we navigate our Strategic Plan for Equity. Mrs. Stehm's time co-facilitating the Root Cause efforts give her a well-rounded lens with which to aid the district in this plan.
After several years, Mrs. Stehm's role evolved to serve as an associate superintendent. In looking at roles and responsibilities in the areas where curriculum and instruction and pupil personnel services overlap, the district has determined that there is a need for some restructuring. We already shared that Troy Olin has been appointed as an assistant superintendent to replace Mrs. Stehm in the Office of Instruction. In addition, effective July 1, Jason deJong’s title as Director of Pupil Personnel Services will change to reflect a shift in some of his responsibilities, including oversight of counselors and work related to aligning our student discipline process with our Strategic Plan for Equity. Mr. deJong will now be Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services. The Director of Pupil Personnel Services position will be eliminated.
Finally, after a comprehensive search and multi-step interview process involving a dozen staff members and administrators, Jeff McKinney has been selected as our next Director of Technology. Mr. McKinney comes to Gates Chili from Batavia, where he has held several roles, including Director of Technology. He is a longtime Gates resident and will be a great asset to our district team.
