Gates Chili students win big in poetry contest
Fifteen Gates Chili students were honored for their poetry at Gates Public Library on May 16.
Students from Gates Chili High School, Middle School, Walt Disney Elementary School and Florence Brasser Elementary School entered a poetry contest for K-12 students sponsored by the Friends of the Gates Public Library. Most of the students and their families were present, along with several of their teachers. Cynthia Ratajczak, the contest coordinator, introduced each student before they read their poems aloud to the audience.
The contest is named after Elizabeth Hinchey, a multi-talented woman who wrote poetry and the wife of Franklin Hinchey, and was open to all students attending Gates Chili Central School District.
