Career exploration for middle and high school students
Have you heard about the demand for middle-skill workers? Between now and the year 2024, almost half of all job openings will fall into this category. Some of these middle-skill career areas include automotive technology, carpentry, computer technology, construction, cosmetology, culinary arts, electrical, exercise science, HVAC and plumbing, laboratory technology, certified nurse and dental assisting, tooling and machining.
Join us for the Spartan Circle Exploring Careers event on Wednesday, March 13 at Gates Recreation Center, 1605 Buffalo Road from 6:30-8 p.m. At this event you can speak with representatives from Monroe Community College (MCC) and the BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education Center at WEMOCO about these career fields. Gates Police Department and the Gates Fire Department will also be in attendance. For questions or more information, contact Costa Tavelaris, Assistant Principal at Gates Chili Middle School at Costadinos_Tavelaris@gateschili.org or 247-5050 x 31312.
Spartan Circle is a collaborative effort between GCSD and Gates Recreation and Parks to provide a safe and structured environment for secondary students to meet with their peers, and connect with encouraging adults from the community. At a variety of Spartan Circle events students in grades 6-12 will have the opportunity to interact with their peers, meet and chat with volunteers from the community and have fun!
