Hammel, Braid to take on permanent roles as principal and assistant principal, respectively
The Gates Chili Board of Education appointed two Gates Chili leaders to permanent positions during their regular business meeting on Dec. 12.
The board approved Tom Hammel as principal of Gates Chili High School. Hammel, who has been an assistant principal since 2019, had been serving in the role of interim principal this year.
Additionally, the board approved the vacancy left by Hammel’s appointment to be permanently filled by Laura Braid. Braid stepped up to serve in the interim assistant principal role after having spent 20 years in the classroom as a science teacher and curriculum leader.
“During this period of transition, both Tom and Laura have shown tremendous leadership and collaboration that have contributed to our collective growth as a school and as a district,” said Christopher Dailey. “I have complete confidence that their experience, skills and passion for Gates Chili will continue to help us foster an environment where every student can achieve success.”
Hammel and Braid’s new roles take effect immediately.
