Meet Mrs. Childs

  • Greetings! My name is Mrs. Childs and I have been an AIS Literacy teacher and Reading Recovery teacher in the Gates Chili School District for 17 years.  I have taught AIS Literacy at the middle school and AIS Literacy and Reading Recovery at Neil Armstrong Elementary School an Florence Brasser Elementary School.  I love teaching students how to read and write!

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree and English teaching certification 7-12 from SUNY Brockport in 1997. In 2001, I received my Master of Science Degree and Literacy certification K-12 from Nazareth College.  In the past, I taught English for five years, but most of my experience has been working with struggling readers and writers.  In 2013, I received training as a Reading Recovery specialist and have focused on the fundamentals of literacy education.

My husband, Curtis, and I have been married for eleven years.  We have three children:  Lydia, a 4th grader, Wesley, a 2nd grader, and Lila, a UPK student!  They are full of energy and love!  They love water, running, riding their bikes, laughing, and of course, chasing each other!

We have four cats:  Tela, Marshmallow, Rosie, and Brownie.   We also have a turtle named Tiny, who is quite Tiny.  He actually is the size of a quarter.  Finally, we have some tropical fish to keep our house alive!

If I am not teaching, I also work at Kohls.  I love working at Kohls and meeting new people!  I LOVE the Buffalo Bills, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Wow, I am a busy person!
