WEEKLY SPELLING HOMEWORK                        GUIDELINES                                  

  All All Activities should be done in your spelling notebook

 and turned in on a Daily basis.

Mo  Monday

1.                  Cut out words to use as flash cards throughout the week

2.                Sort word by the closed pattern and write them in your notebook

Tu  Tuesday

1.                  Choose 6 words you want to know more about.  Use a dictionary to look up each word and write the definitions in your notebook.

2.                Then sort all the words in a different way than on Monday… in an open sort.  Try to use a different sort each week.

We Wednesday

1.                  Write 10 fourth grade sentences using a different spelling word in each sentence.  Remember to use a variety of sentence starters, capitalization, and punctuation rules.  Underline your spelling word. 

TT   Thursday

1.  C    Choose one of the following activities.

1.            Rhyming words-pick 10

2.           ABC order-forwards or backwards

3.          Parts of Speech (noun, verb, adjective, etc.)

4.          Spelling with a Math Twist - WS

5.          Sort all words by  number of syllables

6.           Sort all words by first vowels

7.           Sort by same long/short vowel sound

8.           Sort by related categories or meaning

9.            Sort by Number of letters in word

10.      Make a word search

11.        Make an acrostic poem with 10 spelling words - WS

12.      Make fractions of consonants and vowels in 8 words  - WS

13.      Make words within words - WS

14.      Type your words in different colors/fonts

15.      Ransom words-cut out letters from the newspaper or magazine to spell out 10 list words
