April 10, 2008 The HS choirs traveled to Armstrong Elementary, Brasser Elementary and Washington Irving Elementary to perform for the students there. The HS singers had a great time sharing their talent and visiting their former schools and former teachers. They also enjoyed meeting the younger students and showing them what hard work and practice can help them accomplish with their singing. Below are pictures from our trip to Brasser. March 2007 Recently the Fredonia Chambers Singers came to perform for the choirs at GCHS. Dr. Lang worked with the Concert Choir during 1st period rehearsal and then the college students gave a short concert performance during third period. Thank you to all the families that helped house the choir members while they stayed in Rochester! December 2006: On Tuesday December 5th, the Concert Choir and the Advanced Women's Choir traveled to WROC Channel 8 News to do a video taping for the "Sounds of the Season" program. They visited the Channel 8 recording studio and recored 4 songs which will be played on the following dates and times on Channel 8. See below for pictures from the trip. March 2006: On Wednesday March 8, 2006, the Advanced Women's Choir participated in "The Commission Project." The Commission Project, Inc. (TCP) is a nonprofit organization that "fosters creativity through music education by commissioning original music and producing workshops and composer-in-residence programs in schools nationwide. TCP’s composer-in-residence programs enrich existing school curricula by involving students directly in the creative process: establishing exploratory forums, which spark creativity and inventiveness. From the onset, the composer involves students in the creative journey, making artistic decisions and incorporating their input in the compositional process."

Only five Monroe County high schools and directors signed on to collaborate with composer Zachary Wadsworth and the Eastman Chorale to introduce "A Sabbath Morning at Sea" in performances this spring. The GCHS Advanced Women's Choir has been hard at work learning two movements of the four movement piece. On March 8th, the young women got a chance to meet and work with the composer when he came to visit them at GCHS during their choir rehearsal. They got a chance to perform for the composer and also ask questions about his compositional process, techniques, and vision for the piece. Here is some information on the composer: Zachary Wadsworth is one of the country's finest emerging composers. He is a recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music who is now based at Yale University in New Haven. Wadsworth has written a number of extremelysuccessful choral works in recent years, and is an experienced choral singer as well, who is now performing with Simon Carrington in the elite YaleSchola Cantorum.
November 2005: On Tuesday November 15, 2005 the GCHS Advanced Women’s Choir traveled to Brighton High School to do an exchange concert with the Brighton High School Women’s Concert Choir. Prior to that day, each school prepared three pieces of music that would be performed as a combined group the night of the concert. The women rehearsed together for two hours after school under the direction of Mr. Jason Berger and Miss Christine Cramer. A dinner of pizza, veggies and fruit was provided by the Brighton and Gates Chili High School Music Boosters. At the 7:00 concert that night, each group performed a few numbers separately and ended with the combined pieces. It was a wonderful hour of beautiful treble-voice music! Here are some pictures of the women rehearsing.
