Welcome to the Amerks Community

AMERKS NEWS TO USE

Summer’s here! It’s time to relax, refresh and reflect. The Amerks Community had another terrific year. Grade 7 student Jaxon Flint was awarded the ‘Do the Right Thing Award’ by the Rochester Police Department in October. Amerk students as a whole were busy with multiple service projects.  Mr. Geer led many of these outstanding efforts benefitting local veterans and the Red Cross fund for Haiti.  The Amerks Community also continued its traditional celebrations including an all grade level Mix It Up Lunch Day and the all grade level Holiday Party.

The second annual Amerks Appreciation Day was a very special event this year. Grade 8 student Cierra Dillard showed a power point presentation describing her trip to Haiti to help in the rebuilding efforts. We were all very proud of Cierra’s thoughtful observations about her service and her appreciation for her life here at home. Following this event was the inauguration of the Amerks Community Award: the Amerks Appreciation Award. Grade 8 student Olivia Fish presented awards to Mr. Mike Candileri, Ms. Elisha Rammelt, Kelly Campbell and her sister Allison Fish for their heroic actions and support after a life threatening incident that happened in March of this year. Parent volunteers and teachers then served ice cream to the hungry crowd as they applauded the winners of the Amerks Paper Plate Awards.

As Amerks look ahead to next year, they can anticipate a continued emphasis on feeling connected to our community through participation in many of our established community traditions. Another initiative for next year is a community wide focus on Spartan Values. In addition, Amerks can look forward to many opportunities to mix with students from other communities. After all, we are all Spartans!

A personal note from Mrs. McGary, the Amerks Community Principal:

Every year brings some changes in our community’s membership. For starters, you will hear a new voice answering the community office phone: Mrs. JoAl Lettau. Mrs. Lettau joined the Amerks Community as the community secretary at the end of June when our Mrs. DiNitto retired to become more of an active Grandma. Mrs. Lettau comes to us from the High School and was at one time the Middle School’s PTO president. We are very happy to have her here with us! And, we wish the very best to Mrs. DiNitto!

Next year the Amerks Community will have a new community principal. Where am I going?! Not far at all! I am honored to have recently been appointed the new principal at Gates Chili’s Neil Armstrong Elementary School. I will always treasure the memories made during my time at the Middle School. I will miss my middle school students and families. However, I am very happy that I continue to be part of the Gates Chili family! You can look forward to an announcement before the start of the school year naming your new Amerks Community Principal.

It has been my pleasure to be part of your lives. Thank you for entrusting the care and education of your children to me these past two years.

Sincerely,

Mrs. McGary
