Congratulations to the Gates Chili High School choir and band who were accepted to perform at Disney World in December. The marching band will march in the Magic Kingdom Parade and the Orlando Citrus Parade and the choir will perform at Epcot.
Congratulations to Krystal Ealy who was selected as Outstanding Senior for Gates Chili High school. She was honored at the 14th Annual Recognition Dinner in May.
Seven Gates Chili High School students were honored with the Young Citizens of the Year and Willie W. Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year Awards. These awards were established by the Monroe County Legislature as one of the highest honors for youth and adult leadership, community service, advocacy, and perserverance. Congratulations to Renika Dixon, Krystal Ealy, Michael Gray, Brandon Whitney-McDonald, Adam Ludwig, Adam Ludwig, and Mackenzie Zimmerman.
Congratulations to Disney Grade 5 DARE Essay winners Nadia Edulovski, Connor Mulher, Riley Sullivan, Gina Gaudioso, and Jacob Peet.
High School senior, Michelle Sudillo, received second place in the 21st annual Stop DWI Poster Contest. She received $100 for her work.
Two Disney students, Jenna Hossenlopp and Hannah Cuyler recently each had a haircut and donated their very long hair to the Locks of Love.
Spartans ORIGINAL Singers (SOS) competed at the Darien Lake Theme Park’s “Music in the Parks” competition on May 16th in the AA division. SOS performed “Kids!” from ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and a medley from ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. The group won 1st place for Middle School Show Choir for the 4th consecutive year. The group was also awarded “Overall Best Junior High Chorus” as well. SOS is co-directed by Julie Ciarvella and Mike Murphy, with choreography by Sarah Adams.
For the third year in a row, ninth grader Alyssa Murphy held a mass hair cutting day for Locks of Love called HairRaiser 2009 at Continental School of Beauty. Alyssa also donated her hair at the event. This was her fifth time donating since first grade, she has now donated 5 1/2 feet of her own hair.
The Gates Chili Music Boosters, parents and students alike, want to say THANK YOU to our wonderful community for the support received during the recent Bottle and Can Drive. They collected 245,945 bottles and cans! The next B&C drive August 29th.
Congratulations to high school teacher Susan Swift who applied for a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and was awarded a collection of 40 art prints! She will be developing lesson plans for teachers that incorporate the art work into the curriculum. In addition, she has been invited to attend a seminar in Boston this summer to further develop lessons and present to other participants.
Congratulations to eighth grader Kelsey Peters and sixth grader Elmi Santos for first and second place wins in the Middle School’s annual spelling bee.
