This year, for the first time, the Peer Leadership students and their teachers, Ms. Theresa Barron and Mrs. Joan Stevens, are being recognized with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for Groups. To receive the highest level-the gold, a group must log in at least 1,000 volunteer hours. This year’s Peer Leaders-all 97 of them…logged in 7,500 Service Learning contact hours from August 2007 to January 2008 when the class ended. Many of these students have continued on with their volunteering thus adding at least another 500 hours to this total. In addition, 16 Peer Leaders will receive the bronze or silver awards for their individual commitment to servicing the community.

These awards will be given on June 3rd at a special ceremony at the High School. Peer Leadership teachers Joan Stevens and Theresa Barron and the following students represented the Peer Leadership Classes at the annual district volunteer luncheon:
